Canadas Economy In 1996 :: essays research papers
Canada's Economy in 1996 To investigate the state of the Canadian economy, it is very useful to track Canada's six major economic goals: economic growth, economic stability, economic efficiency, economic equity, viable balance of payments, and low unemployment. At a given time, Canada is achieving some of these goals while falling behind on some of the others. When taken all into consideration, these goals give an indication of how well Canada has been doing and the stage of the business cycle the Canadian economy is in. In 1996-1997, Canada is in slight recession and is only meeting the goals of economic stability, and viable balance of payments. Canada can be said to be in a period of slight recession because there is a downswing in economic activity. To confirm a true recovery, "an economy must show no growth for two consecutive quarters." However, Canada is not in a true recession because there was a 3.0% growth in the third quarter, compared to 2.2% in the second quarter. Eventhough it is not true recession, the slow growth is a sure sign of a slight one. Low inflation is also is also prevalent and is symptomatic of a weak economy. A low inflation rate of 1.4% in November 1996 does not provide much of an indication for economic growth and expansion. A shrinking positive balance of payments indicates these are tough economic times. A fourth indication of a slight recession is the high unemployment rate. An unemployment rate of 10.0% in November 1996 is definitely not a sign of strong economic recovery. Canada is always trying to work towards the goal of economic growth. Economic growth is the percentage change of GDP over a period of time and is also known as the growth rate. In 1996, Canada's GDP has been increasing slowly since the first quarter. The GDP in the first quarter was 1.8%, then increased to 2.2% in the second quarter, and in the third quarter it rose to 3.0%. In this way, Canada has been experiencing steady growth. This goal is being met because of the increase in consumer spending inspite of the government cutbacks. Consumer spending levels tell producers what to produce, and how much to produce. If consumer spending increases, it gives a signal to the producers to produce more which causes the increasing GDP. The government cutbacks contribute does contribute to lower consumer confidence and, thus, slows the economic growth. Slow, growth causes few jobs to be created as it means a slower rate of expansion of industries. When there is slow growth, few jobs are being created,

Process Essay - How to Get a Girl :: Process Essays
Every manââ¬â¢s dream is to have the perfect companion. However, in order to have one, you must first be able to get one. Most believe such a task can be extremely difficult, yet if done properly, it can be accomplished swiftly and efficiently. In fact, there are only a few basic procedures to getting a girl. The first step of this process is rather quite simple; get her attention. Initiating conversation is half the battle. As well, it is very effective to make frequent eye contact. Let her catch you staring once in a while and smile at every chance you get. Your goal is to be fairly subtle, while still making it obvious that you want her. Once you have succeeded in being noticed, you are ready for the next step. Be funny, be confident, but be yourself. The absolute worse thing you can do when trying to get a girl is to change your personality. Self-assurance is indispensable and by altering your character, you are telling her that you lack confidence. Having a sense of humor is also very important. It is absolutely crucial to make her smile, even if it occasionally requires making a fool of yourself. If you canââ¬â¢t make her laugh, you donââ¬â¢t stand a chance. Now that sheââ¬â¢s interested, entice her by making her feel special. Without being too overwhelming, attempt to spend as much time as possible with her. Devote yourself to making her feel different than the rest by going out of your way to please her. Little things count most. For example, cancel a pre-planned weekend with the boys and take her out for dinner and a movie instead. Randomly buy her flowers and she will melt. Let her hear things she wants to hear. Compliment her hair or her outfit, but donââ¬â¢t go overboard. Too much of a good thing gets taken for granted. Itââ¬â¢s also essential that you be interested, or pretend to be interested, in things she likes. If she plays sports watch her game, even in the pouring rain. Once she feels a little closer to you, itââ¬â¢s time for the final step. Probably the most difficult yet most important step to getting a girl is to keep her guessing. Although it sounds foolish, you must back off, tremendously. Play games with her head. Make her jealous by flirting with other girls, especially with her friends.

Life of Pi: Use of a Unreliable Narrator Essay
ââ¬Å"An unreliable narrator can draw you into his or her worldview and perhaps even make you take sides before a writer reveals a broader perspective, one that he/she has missed or omitted. Even if a story is written so you doubt the narrator from the beginning, an unreliable narrator is still the one taking you through the story, so you hang on to their words. Perhaps a certain dialogue or an event will uncover details the narrator does not realize and expose that as an unreliable narrator, their word can no longer be trustedâ⬠. (Jada Bradley). In the book Life of Pi, Pi reveals himself as an unreliable narrator. Although Pi defines himself as an unpredictable narrator through the final events in the story, Pi gives hints of false information throughout the book. As a reader, you hang on to his words because he is the one taking you through the account of his epic journey. Pi in the final scene of the story after his journey across the Pacific, tells the Japanese Oceanic Authorities contradicting stories. ââ¬Å"Pi: So, you didn`t like my story? Mr.Okamoto: No, we liked it very much. Didnââ¬â¢t we , Atsuro? We will remember it for a long, long time. Mr.Chiba: We will. [Silence] Mr.Okamoto: But for the purposes of our investigation, we would like to know what really happened. Pi: What really happened? Mr. Okamoto: Yes. Pi: So you want another story? Mr. Okamoto: Uhhâ⬠¦no. We would like to know what really happened.â⬠Pi leads you to believe that he is only making up the second account to satisfy the two men`s disbelief in his first story. However, if you reexamine the book you find that the second report could actually be a true account. Now you see that there are two valid stories, and the reader must choose which story is accurate based on their own conclusions about Pi. Throughout Pi`s journey there are doubtful events that hint at his unreliability as an narrator. These incidents can influence your choice on which story you find factual, like sketchy witnesses in a crime investigation. For instance, during his voyage, Pi encounters another blind castaway who jumps on Pi`s boat to kill him but, is killed by Richard Parker. This event is extremely unrealistic, for the possibility of two blind castaways encountering each other in the world`s largest ocean is simply far-fetched. You may sense some disbelief in this occurrence yet, you still trust his word. For Pi hasn`t yet given the reader a reason to disbelieve him as the narrator. Pi`s story from the boat sinking and the loss of his family, to his terrible journey across the Pacific Ocean is a horrible tragedy. You mourn for him and his horrible situation and through this sorrow you don`t realize that he could be making this all up. Usually when you read stories you want the main character to have a happy ending. However, in Life of Pi, when you discover you can no longer trust Pi`s account, you lose your remorse for him and his predicament. Crossen states this plainly in her Wall Street Journal article on unreliable narrators, ââ¬Å"Unfortunately, to point out that a book has an unreliable narrator is to spoil the thrill of losing your innocence.â⬠Cheering for the main character becomes vile when you have lost trust in their word. Pi`s first account of a boy and a Bengal tiger surviving a journey across the Pacific Ocean is fantastic tale but somewhat believable. However, by the end of the novel our perception of Pi as the storyteller has been tainted. Our perspective of anyone`s account of their lives depends on our own experiences and knowledge. As David Fromkin states in The Way of the World, â⬠Life is a story that each of us tells to his or her self; and it therefore is a tale told by an unreliable narrator.ââ¬

Overcoming Pt Lapindo Brantas Case
Civics Individual Paper OVERCOMING PT. LAPINDO BRANTAS HOT MUD CASE By: Aditya Rahman Sulaiman 10/HK/295884/19279 International Undergraduate Programme Lapindo hot mud flood case or we usually called it ââ¬Å"banjir lumpur panas Lapindoâ⬠is an event of the unstoppable mud gush in Kecamatan Porong, Kabupaten Sidoarjo, Jawa Timur and this accident have been happened since 29 may 2006. There are 2 views of the cause of this Lapindo hut mud flood case.First, some scholars said that the primary cause of this event was because drilling mistakes and technical problems. Other theory said that it was happened because natural disaster, this theory explaining that sooner or later hot mud gush will be arise, the lapindoââ¬â¢s mining activity is only the trigger. First theory believes that there is an eror in the mining activity, PT. LAPINDO is suspected not doing a proper procedure in using the correct brace and bit (mata bor), they use it within different depth which has different thi ckness and causing a fault. In the begininning, PT LAPINDO won a drilling well tender called ââ¬Å"pengeboran sumur Banjar Panji-1â⬠from PT Medici Citra Nusantara as worth as US$24 million. PT LAPINDO was planning to drill the well until 8500 feet or 2590 meter depth. In order to reach that depth, infiltrate the Kujung layer (lapisan batu gamping), anticipate circulation loss potency (losing mud from the formation cause a high density liquid or mud come up) and kick potency (infiltration of other fluide to the upper layer), normally PT LAPINDO is needed to use a casing for its brace and bit.Running their work, PT LAPINDO has already used 30 inch casing for 150 feet depth, 20 inch casing for 1195 feet, 16 inch casing for 2385 feet and casing 13-3/8 inch for 3580 feet until 9297 feet, they only not yet put the last casing, the 9-5/8 inch casing for reach the Kujung layer in 8500 feet. The fact is, PT LAPINDO has a wrong prognosis a drilling term which briefly means drilling meth od of some points. They make a prognosis in different areas, they making a research of the Kendeng Zone but they drill at the Rembang Zone they assume such areas has same layers, due to those areas are closed enough .They estimate that in the drilling point, Kujung layer will obstruct them at 8500 feet depth, actually there is no Kujung layer within areas. They used some casing which they are donââ¬â¢t necessary need to use and make an accident. As consequences, an overpressure mud is blow out to the upper layer in mining process, the lower layer had already broken rapidly and not suitable with PT LAPINDO method. Then, after reaching 9297 feet the brace and bit touches limestone (batu gamping).LAPINDO thought that the target at Kujung formation has been achieved, in fact they only reach Klitik zone (also a limestone formation but has different density and porousity). Commensurate with mining procedure, LAPINDO use a mining pump to prevent the hot mud come up. The porousity of Kli tik zone made the covering mud been spread over that zone and circulation loss happen. After the covering mud losing, kick was happened, the hot mud tried to achived upper layer due to density difference.Following the mining procedure, mining process was stopped and the brace and bit has been tried to be lifted up. Unfortunately, the brace and bit was stuck and been cut. A Blow Out Preventer (BOP) on the rig has been closed and another weight mud which has a big number of density was pumped down in order to stopping the kick. Another unexpected mud activity happned, because layer is so porous and the Blow Out Preventer (BOP) was already placed, the hot mud was trying to find other way. Condition and natural fissures of such soil also could be a factor why this kick ââ¬âing accident is happen.Since this surface blow out accident happened, the hot mud is not been stopped yet. The odd things is all of the document and mining procedure especially about casing installation is already accepted by BP MIGAS as a responsible bodied of mining. On the other hand, some scholars says that this accident is more like natural disaster called Mud Volcano, a layer that has high density mud which presume can provide a mountan if such mud going out to the ground surface, sooner or later a kind of things will happen just matter of time.Prof Dr Sukendar Asikin, master of geology from ITB (Instititut Pertanian Bandung) said that hot mud comes up because there is a tectonic movement below. The movement arise from a collision of Watukosek faulting zone, this faulting zone located on Australia faulting belt and pasifik which continually moving 5,3 cm/year. When the collision happen the hot mud find out way to blow out from any space mostly from a porous rock or layer. A foreign scholar, Dr Amanda Clarke, a master and lecturer from geology in Arizona State Universiy has already observing this Sidoarjo case 2 times. In addition, she said that based in geology map, Sidiarjo mud sprout on the straight line between Penagunggan mountain, Weliran mountain and Arjuno mountain which kown as Watukosek fault. The streamline has a weak and thin structure, a fluide can be easily arise. Furthermore, an international event for scholars has tried to make a consent regarding couse of Sidoarjo hot mud case. An International Conference and Exhibition which is held by American Association of Petroletum Geologist on 26th until 29th 2008 in Cape Town International Conference Center, South Africa provide 4 arguments. The arguments are; 3 scholars are agree that this accident happen in relation with Jogjakartaââ¬â¢s earthquake, 42 scholars are agree that Lapindo mining process it the main factor, this accident happened based on combination between mining process and Jogjakartaââ¬â¢s earthquake is accepted by 13 scholars, and the rest 16 sholars said that they can not determine what the problem yet, based on that data we conclude that more that half scholars attended are agree th at Lapindo mining process it the main cause of this accident. This case has been even bigger, not only an accident but the effect on the society is being worse. Talking further about the effect, at least we have 3 major effect on the socity such as social, economic and environmental. In social effect, people around Sidoarjo are losing their houses, feel a bad sanitation, psychologically interfered, health disturbed, lack of education (some schools are closed) and many more. Can you imagine if such accident to you? Houses is the most important aspect that Sidoarjo case affected people, people around Sidoarjo doesnââ¬â¢t have any places to stay.In economic field, financing problem of course happen, people around Sidoarjo mostly jobless by a breaking farm or other materials which is covered by hot mud, and accessibility from Surabaya to Magelang or to east direction are closed decreasing economic activity within Sidoarjo area. In the environmental effect, most of natural resources wi thin Sidoarjo areas are broken, after covered by hot mud a farm doesnââ¬â¢t had any function , a pure and clean lake which people use for wash also has no function anymore and a stinky smell from the mud also affected people.Solution and legal enforce of Lapindoââ¬â¢s hot mud case are going slow. Compensation that PT LAPINDO already provides is not distributed equally to the LAPINDOââ¬â¢s hot mud victims. The LAPINDOââ¬â¢s people said that compensation has been given directly by providing cash as much as Rp 2. 500. 000, 00 / meter square damageand transportation money compensation as much as Rp 500. 00, 00 / family (based on tempointeraktif. com date 29 october 2006). The amount of compensation is not firmly publicly determined, because this number has already changed through time, some newspaper said that the compensation is equal as Rp 15. 00. 000,00 per family. In fact, not all of the victims are know about this compensation procedure, the other who get this compensat ion also said that the cash distribution is not as much as what they have been promised previously. Republika newspaper date 27 august 2010 state that Aburizal Bakrie as owner of PT. LAPINDO affiliation company said that personally he has provided moreless Rp 7. 800. 000. 000,00 rupiah and he agree that this accident was because ââ¬Å"Mud Volcanoâ⬠theory. The government is seems to be not care enough to this case, as an evidence a government regulation in Sidoarjo case, the Presidential decree number 17 year 2007 is firstly arise 1 year after the accident happen. The Presidential decree number 17 year 2007 also not stipulating anything about PT LAPINDO punishment or compensation, briefly this decree mention about create a Overcoming Disaster Bodied (badan penganggulangan bencana) which shall handle and find a way out about effects of hot mud cases towards society. Moreover, The PT. LAPINDO BRANTAS is proven guilty by not following AMDAL RULES and another rules as follows; a) Un dang-Undang Nomor 22 Tahun 2001 tentang Minyak dan Gas Bumi b) Undang-Undang Nomor 23 Tahun 1997 tentang Pengelolaan lingkungan Hidup c) Undang-Undang Nomor 23 Tahun 1997 tentang Pengelolaan Lingkungan Hidup (Lembaran Negara Republik Indonesia Tahun 1997 Nomor 68, Tambahan Lembaran Negara Republik Indonesia Nomor 3699) d) Undang-Undang Nomor 32 tahun 2004 tentang Pemerintahan daerah e) EtcThere is an opinion of some people which said that this hot mud case is not solved yet, because people in government are politically affected by Aburizal Bakrie power. They said that our president itself used his money for the previous presidential general election and he looks like protecting Aburizal Bakrie. These kind of opinion are canââ¬â¢t be proved and only like political issues. Yet, the PT LAPINDO is been closed but the overcoming disaster still doesnââ¬â¢t work well. Basically, the government has to provide help using its Overcoming Disaster money which stated in State Budget.Actual ly, the government has done something but it is not equal with amount of hot mud case total damage. Many solutions have been tried regarding this case, the most better one is making the rig relief well. Such cases have happened in Australia and can be solved by this method. The problem is, rig relief well which is done by Pertamina is not runned continually, scholars approximates this rig relief well will be finish within 6 months but accompanied by some political issues, this Pertamina rig relief well making postponed or even stopped after 2 months (it is not firmly stated that this methods will be run again). In my opinion, this hot mud case will be finish fastly if the the political issues doesnââ¬â¢t mix up with the case. Aburizal Bakrie and his political power interfere our nation overcoming disaster. The government should act more firm and clear in making decision or further solution. This case also could be an evidence that our nation overcoming disaster is still need to be repaired. Impressing Your Boss
It sounds like a no-brainer, but quiz your boss on what is the most important way you can spend your time and then make those tasks a priority, suggests Steve Langerud, director of professional opportunities at DePauw University. By tackling the objectives that your boss holds in high esteem, you'll naturally be in a better spot to get attention and praise for your work. 2. Demonstrate your value Forget what your job description says, create an action plan for how you can be doing your job better, says Mary Hladio, founder of Ember Carriers Leadership Group. Consult your boss and other leaders within the organisation for their input, and put the ideas in motion. 3. Be a team player Shaunti Feldhahn, author of ââ¬ËThe Male Factor', says high-level managers of both sexes want to know that their employees are on board with the team, especially at critical moments. ââ¬Å"In a demanding period, you want to make sure you are sharing the same pain,â⬠she says. For example, this might mean staying late for a meeting or pitching in on a company-wide initiative. (For more, see Seven tips for staying off the chopping block. ) Even if it's not part of your job requirements or you haven't been asked to do it, voluntarily offer your boss reports on your progress, says former human resources trainer, Mimi Donaldson. ââ¬Å"Bosses are busy,â⬠she says. ââ¬Å"You cannot expect them to notice when you do something great. â⬠But a routine email summing up your day-to-day accomplishments and where you stand on major projects is an influential way to keep your boss informed without monopolising time. 5. Network like you're unemployed Langerud also advises reaching out to colleagues in other departments and requesting their feedback on how you can help them be more effective. Around the company, it will only improve your reputation, he says, and it will likely get circulated back to your boss that you are a problem-solver and a dedicated worker. (Learn more in Four career networking tips that work. ) 6. Be heard and seen It's not about gossiping around the water cooler every morning, but finding subtle, yet powerful, routes to contribute to your firm. For instance, it may be presenting a strong, thoughtful point in a meeting, or sharing innovative ideas up the ranks about ways to improve your company's operation. Plus, being seen at company events, such as holiday parties and other social gatherings, volunteer activities and corporate retreats, shows you care about your job. The bottom line Not only is the job market more competitive in recessionary times, it's also increasingly difficult to get a raise. That's because the pool of money corporations reserve for rewarding staff ââ¬â even the most stellar of employees ââ¬â is shrinking. The current work environment demands that you must stand out in your boss's mind if you want to get a bump in your salary or a promotion.

Wear and Appearance of the Army Uniform
In the army there are many uniforms a soldier has to wear. This is for the different activities a soldier does. For everything from their daily Physical Training (PT), their regular working uniform Army Combat Uniform (ACU), or their dress uniform either the Army Service Uniform (ASU), or the Army Green Service Uniform (Class A). Each uniform is design to fit a specific task and to be worn a in certain way. A great resource for either the ASU or the Class A is the ââ¬Å"U. S. ARMY UNIFORM GUIDE. I found this little book a great resource because it shows every form of the ASU for both males and females soldiers, for officers and enlisted. I found this to be great because it shows where everything goes, and how to measure everything, and for a new soldier like me it is important to have the little things right. Over time the uniform of a soldier has change. Since the days of the Revolutionary War to today modern wars in Afghanistan and Iraq the uniform has change but the guide lines h as not. As the uniform evolved, so has the regulation that covers it has also. The regulation that covers this is Army Regulation 670-1, the covers everything from how to cut and maintain your hair to how to wear jewelry, eyeglasses and sunglasses. This regulation is something every soldier should read, even the ones who have been in for over ten years. Because from what I have learned is that this regulation is constantly changing. How to wear the army uniform is important because when we put on the uniform we donââ¬â¢t just represent ourselves but the army as a whole as well. One thing I have learned in my short 20 years of life is how important the clothes you wear impact you as person.Because they can be tell tell sings of what type of person you are. As in the book ââ¬Å"APPERANCESâ⬠witch talks about how the clothes you wear can say a lot of what type of person you are, or how do you live your lifestyle. When I was a little boy I would always watch how a few of my neig hbors, which were in the National Guard, would be dress and how I notice that each of their uniforms would be. All of them looking good, with their boots clean and polish, uniforms clean, looking how a soldier should be.When I was is the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) I learned how to wear the uniform, even more when I came into the army. In basic training I learned how correct looks like. My drill sergeants would always be looking professional at all times and I would always say this to myself (there nothing ever wrong with any of their uniform). But they would always say ââ¬Å"if you see something wrong with any of our uniforms tell us, and the same goes for your battle buddy. â⬠Thatââ¬â¢s when I really learned to start to look for the little things most people would not notice. That when I started to pay more attention to my own uniform. I would always taking one last quick peck before formation, always trying to look for the things that other peopl e would not see but would notice. As a military police soldier I think we should be held to a higher standard. In everything from the physical training we do, to how our uniform should be. All of our pockets should be lie down flat. All of our buttons and zippers should be button and zipped. Our boots should always be clean, rid of any and all dirt and mud. The uniform as a whole should be cleaned at all times.Because we are the first ones who people see on the gates. Because first impressions are everything, I would never see my dad going to work looking like garbage, he would always look professional. This applies to us even more because when we are patrolling we are the ones who people see giving tickets. We are the ones who respond to when people have any type of an emergency, we are the ones who will show up at the scene of an accident. The general population expect more of us because we are not only police officers we are military polices soldiers.Which many people would assum e since we are in the military we should have more discipline. When you see that soldier who uniform is all messed up, you would assume either him or one of his leaders don't have the discipline to maintain the uniform. Thatââ¬â¢s something we as military police soldiers can't be. Whenever you pull over that first sergeant, or that captain that are not only going to look at your rank but your uniform as well, because they are most likely going to think ââ¬Å"his uniform look like shit, how do I know if he is doing his job correctly when he can't even maintain his uniform looking as it should. That where I believe our leaders come into play, they are not only there to help us, but also to fix us when we are wrong. So when I keep blowing off the fact my uniform did look like shit, I should have gone to one of them to see if they could help me fix the mistake. Itââ¬â¢s important to wear to army uniform correctly because the habits you do while you are home in a safe environment will continue when you deploy. Whenever you go on a mission you should always double and triple check yourself to make sure you have the right equipment. To make sure you are not missing the little things like you camel bag, or even the big things like you weapon. Thatââ¬â¢s why itââ¬â¢s important to always check yourself in the mirror before you leave. Not only to check you have the right things but also to make sure everything is in the right place, looking how it should. The same goes for whenever you go out, you always want to be looking good at all times, where ever you go. Thatââ¬â¢s the same type of thinking you need to have every time you put on the army uniform.Because for me every time I put that uniform on I fell a since of pride, knowing I am a soldier, knowing I am one of the few people of this nation that is willing to and able to. As soldiers we are required to do certain things, some of these include doing physical training daily, keeping our leaders notified , keeping our uniforms squared away at all times. Because you will never know when your first sergeant or sergeant major decides to do a surprise inspection on you, we have to be ready at all time. One bad soldier can have a huge negative impact on the rest of the team, because that one bad soldier can influence the good soldiers around him, to make him do the bad and wrong things. Every time when we wear the uniform we are not only representing ourselves but the army, our country, and the ideas of a free country. Therefore the uniform should always be neat; there should never be any excess for why our uniforms are ever out of order. The army is a team, on that team ever one wears the same uniform. If you teammate on basketball, football, soccer, or volleyball you would go over a correct them. The same has to apply to the army. When we are in that uniform people are going to be looking at us not just because we are in the military but sometimes because the people who are looking at us are old retires who want to see the next generation of soldiers keeping the same traditions alive. Or they could be a person in a different branch of the military looking to see how the other branches wear their uniforms. When we wear the army uniform in public we should not bring bad attention to ourselves. One the type of attention that would make that little boy says ââ¬Å"I want to be like them some day. That how first got interested in military. The proper wear of the army uniform is important for many reasons. One of these reasons is to have a strong discipline soldier at all times. Because when you wear the army uniform correctly it does show you have discipline. But it also reflects how your leaders are, either the ones who really donââ¬â¢t care about their soldiers or the type of leader who takes the time to get to know his soldiers. Another reason why itââ¬â¢s important to wear the army uniform correctly is because it instill a since of pride that only those who ha ve earned the right to called themselves United States Soldiers.

Educational system in 1920ââ¬â¢s in America Essay
Around the year of 1920s, there were two types of schools in Americas education system. Generally, it consists of Public Schools and Private Schools. The Oregon School System does play a crucial role in their countrys education system, started from the year of 1922. A group of people which is also known as Ku Klux Klan and the Scottish Rite Masons had also involved in the formulation of educational system for the sake of the society in that time. They set the requirements of education for their young generations in that period of time. Basically, it requires all of the young generations especially children, who are free from physically disability, live more than three miles from the nearest road, have already completed the eighth grade in their previous school, and their age must be ranges from 8 to 16, to attend the Public School to further their studies. By the effecting of state law in 1 June 1925, it required all of the children in America to attend the public schools instead of neither private schools nor parochial schools. In order to ensure that such system is fully obeyed and followed by the parents, those parents who did not send their children to such schools will receive some punishments. They can be fined one hundred dollar or get into jail up to one month or both of the punishments. (http://www.nd.edu/~rbarger/www7/pierce.html)However, this type of education system do brings some protestation and objections from the society. The society especially parents wonder why they do not have the rights and choices to send their children to what kind of school and receive what type of education. Thus, such system was soon been challenged by the Society of Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, which it was originated from Catholic Nuns. They are promoting a private military school. Throughout such educational school, all orphans and young men between the ages of 5 to 21 will be taught in such institution. (http://www.nd.edu/~rbarger/www7/pierce.html) In The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway was graduated from New Haven School in 1915. Moreover, there were some rumours saying that Jay Gatsby was graduated from Oxford. Gatsby studied in college of St. Olafs, which is situated in Minnesota. But after 2 weeks, he quit from the college. Back to the author of The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald, he has attended St. Paul Academy in 1908. While in the year of 1911, he furthers his studies in Newman School, Hackensack, New Jersey. Lastly, he was enrolled in Princeton University in the year of 1913. (http://education.yahoo.com/homework_help/cliffnotes/the_great_gatsby/1.html)Moreover, the educational system in America had experienced some drastic changes in 1920s. For instance, the increases in numbers of students who attend public school had lead to the rises of demand of teachers. Besides that, Red Scare, religious controversy and political strife had also influenced the education system as well. Furthermore, the changes also included the opening of new classes for science subjects, physical education, home economics, geography and industrial arts. The educational system had slightly experienced small changes as well, which has only focus on Three Rs (Reading, Writing and Arithmetic). In 1896, Plessy v. Ferguson established the doctorine of separate but equal schools for minority ethnics. Indirectly, it greatly take advantage of the blacks. For sure, it does insured separation, but definitely not equality in education between Blacks and Whites. For example, we can see that the average expenditure of states and municipalities for educational purpose of white students was far more outweighing than black students. Furthermore, blacks are always being deterred from certain occupation and jobs as well.
